- Do not disturb the wound. Avoid rinsing, spitting, or touching the wound on the day of surgery. There will be a metal healing abutment protruding through the gingival (gum) tissue.
- Bleeding: Some bleeding or redness in the saliva is normal for 24 hours. Excessive bleeding can be controlled by biting on a gauze pad for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, please call for further instructions.
- Swelling: Swelling is normal after surgery. Apply ice to the cheek for the first 36 hours to minimize it.
- Diet: Drink fluids, avoid hot food, and stick to soft food on the day of surgery. Return to a normal diet as directed.
- Pain: Take pain medication as needed. Follow the prescribed regimen or use over-the-counter options.
- Antibiotics: Take prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection.
- Oral Hygiene: Use prescribed Peridex Oral Rinse and warm salt-water rinses. Be gentle when brushing surgical areas.
- Activity: Limit physical activities immediately after surgery to avoid complications.
- Wearing Your Prosthesis: Avoid using partial dentures, flippers, or full dentures immediately after surgery and for at least ten days. This was discussed in the preoperative consultation.
